on a random note, it's it amazing how that 6 week mark makes such a difference? I wonder if it's the same with subsequent kids or just with the first one and all the life changes that result.

I totally agree. I think that's why I DON'T just want to use DARN or SHOOT. I think considering the function of swearing, why we/I do it, what is the goal and is there another way to meet that need is important.

I use these words for emphasis. See, I REALLY mean it. You know? Plus, sometimes it seems to make stuff funny. The taboo of the words is part of their "charm."

I've never quite understood some of the issues with swearing. Of course there are some swear words that have connotations that I don't like and I try to avoid those. However, when I say "frack" instead of "f*ck," what's the difference? Everyone knows I mean the same thing. Is this just catering to society's definition of appropriate language? If so, who is determining what is appropriate. In general I try to avoid swearing not because *I* think it's bad but because I don't want to offend other people who think it's bad or I don't want to influence children before they can make a decision about what words they choose on their own.

As for suggestions, "frack" is my expletive of choice.

Jason and I use "rugger frugger" and "why don't you go ahead and take a dollar off" as our main swear words. The dollar off = FU in a kind and loving way. Rugger frugger sounds a lot like motherfucker but I don't use it in that way ... I'd like to adopt oh snap more.

I absolutely love the strawberries that are sold on the corners around here but the ones in the store are crap. No flavor at all. I love the idea of living and eating locally and wish that I wasn't so used to having an at-my-fingertips sort of life. I commend you and Peter for doing such a great job moving away from it - it's more of a long term goal for me at this point.

facebook is annoying and awesome at the same time. sometimes i think that it's allowing me to not develop a social support network here b/c i can still check in with all "my people." but it's not the same. i don't want to stop checking in with my people, but i have got to have face-to-face connections too, ya know?

we have disgusting coffee at my workplace too, but everyone has their own pots too. i think i had flavia at my hairdressers once. wasn't all that impressed.

ok, back to work.

My office doesn't even have any sort of coffee available throughout the day. I stop at this local coffee shop each morning. It's expensive (which is good because it limits me to one a day) but the family that owns it is local and I like supporting them. I've tried to be good about bringing my own mug instead of getting a plastic cup every day (I get mine iced) but more often than not I forget to bring it. This makes me feel guilty. I should maybe have 3 mugs or something that I alternate, keeping a couple in the car.

I imagine it'll be weird starting a new therapist. I miss Dr. S. a lot sometimes. Good job on decreasing the snacks.

I miss you. Wish the 4 of us could get together and just hang out - with or without crochet/knit projects.

P.S. Sorry this comment is slightly fragmented, it's 8am and I haven't finished my coffee yet :)
